EXPLORE SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP:  Social Entrepreneurship-Paying it Forward.  Does your student have a passion for community service, do you want them to? This is an opportunity for your student to learn about how starting their own business can also be a way to give back. Students will visit Grind Out Hunger and learn how the Executive Director, Danny Keith, went from the corporate world to running a non-profit from his storefront. Students will also participate in a workshop taught by youth entrepreneur/Designer and CEO of "Doing Everything Different", Devin Lars.

EXPLORE ENTREPRENEURSHIP:  This hands-on workshop will introduce students to Entrepreneurship as a career choice. Participants will be led through concept development, naming their business, identifying a market, developing a marketing plan and finally, how to deliver a stellar "pitch!" Students will hear from local entrepreneurs that will share their stories of building their businesses into a successful enterprise. At the conclusion of the week, students will deliver their "pitch" to their classmates, a mock panel of investors and the Youth Entrepreneurship Program staff at Cabrillo College. Think “Shark Tank!”

Instructor Bios
Originally from the East Coast, Keith Holtaway has been a Santa Cruz resident and entrepreneur for the past 35 years. Over time he started a variety of business, the last of which he ran for 16 years and employed over 100 people spread out over 5 locations in Santa Cruz and the Bay Area. He sold that business in 1997 and began his work as a consultant.  In addition to his private practice he also works with the Small Business Development Centers at Cabrillo College and Cal State Monterey Bay.  His focus has been on business planning and development for both startups and businesses in need of turnaround assistance as well as working with established companies on their annual plans.

Bob Komoto is an SBDC Business Advisor with 5 years experience working with small businesses including agricultural, retailers, and wholesalers and he has empowered them to envision, create, nurture and grow their businesses by providing assistance in marketing, finance, operational strategies, start up, and management. Bob has simultaneously managed multiple clients (SBDC and private), taught business related classes and workshops and helped numerous clients start businesses, hire employees and increase revenue and capital.
